“Era” – Vintage Beach Chalet

“Era” is a classic beach chalet built between 1915 and 1928 on the seafront at Humberston Fitties. We have lovingly restored the chalet to have vintage furniture and styles consistent with its age and character but blended with modern home comforts.
The chalet was placed on the Historic Assets List last year by the local Council and hosts open days for Fitties fans as well as occasional use for photo shoots. In June 2017 “Era” featured prominently in The Independent and will feature in a national magazine later this year (see below for more details).

Due to the size of the chalet it is best suited to 4 people. Due to insurance requirements we cant accommodate children under 12 years old. Sorry!
Well behaved dogs are welcome (please mention when booking), I can provide throws to cover the 3 piece suite if you are bringing dogs, small pet bowls are provided too. The garden is completely fenced and though dogs can run free in the garden and on the beach, please keep them on leads between the garden and the beach. (Please do not let your dogs on the beds.The soil here is very sandy and none dog owners also stay here, me included.) Cats OK, ring me.

The lounge has its original fireplace and is styled in 1920’s Odeon style. Plus original 1950’s furnishings. A real step back in time.
The dining room gets the sun all afternoon and has a huge three leaf Barley twist dining table and 4 chair suite in a classic 1940’s style.

Modern essentials include: a 32″ Smart TV with DVD player, Sky Q with Box Sets and of course WiFi, plus a CD and cassette player. There is also two oil filled radiators and two electric fires. But if you like to enjoy a real coal fire, we have that too.
Use of the coal fire: (coal bunker in back garden) due to insurance (mad) reasons you must be “competent” to use the fire. Only you know this! The chimney is swept and the fuel is provided. Health and safety gone mad, I know. But one has to include it. A fireguard is provided along with a supply of coal. Due to insurance regulations you are supposed to use the fire guard at all times.

BEDROOM 1: has a 4′ double suitable for tall people (no foot-board) with really nice, new memory foam sprung mattress and mattress topper, four pillows and a double duvet. Bedside table with lamp, chest of drawers, chair, and small wardrobe.

BEDROOM 2: has a 4’6″ full double bed with new sprung and memory foam mattress and memory foam topper (HAS foot-board) with four pillows and a king-size duvet. This is a bunk bed and has a single 3′ bed above with brand new sprung mattress and two pillows. The upper bunk is also ideal for storing suitcases etc! Small wardrobe, chest of drawers, cupboard and bedside table with two small drawers.

We all hate cheap mattresses so I bought good ones and use mattress toppers and covers to give extra comfort and protection for hygiene reasons, so they can be replaced when required.

KITCHEN: if you prefer self catering you wont be disappointed, it is small but well equipped. Plus all of the everyday basics are provided such as salt & pepper, mustard, vinegar, basic spices and herbs, soy sauce, cooking oil, etc. plus there is usually tomato sauce, pickle, mayo etc. in the fridge. Plus decent tea, good instant coffee and sugar.
Vintage china is available in the dining room along with a Krups barista coffee machine (bring your preferred coffee) and a fully working vintage Goblin Teasmade. The drinks cabinet is in the lounge.

BATHROOM: full size bath, sink and toilet. Soap and towels are available.

GADGETS: full WiFi broadband throughout. I also leave an Android phone charger in the lounge and a toothbrush charger base in the bathroom wash-stand just in case you forget yours (or I forget mine for that matter!)

I like to greet my guests in person and usually place fresh flowers & semi-skimmed milk on hand. If its a chilly day, I will make you a fire for a warm welcome.

I’m a retired Aromatherapist but went on to having an antique shop for a while. Part of the joy of being able to buy the chalet was sourcing the furnishings for it and restoring it in a sympathetic way. Its been a labour of love, but I hope you enjoy the old girl as much as we do. The vintage doesn’t extend into the bedrooms though, as no one wants a lumpy mattress with springs sticking up when trying to enjoy a restful holiday!
It is not a commercial rent. Its a way of me keeping on maintaining this historic place for future generations. Essentially this is my “joy and pride” that I rent out to the fans of “vintage” to help towards her upkeep.

I will spend around 15 minutes showing you where things are and how they work as well as answering any questions you might have. Then I’ll heave-ho and leave you to start your holiday.

I am less than an hour away at all times. In addition a friend who lives on site is available in emergencies.
The neighbours either side are retired, quiet folk but very helpful about local amenities and enjoy a chat.

In other words too, this is not a chalet for loud parties. This is a chalet for peace and quiet and walks on the beach plus a decent meal and a few drinkies and even a bit of tobacco smoke, in keeping with the vintage feel. All good stuff! Just remember to vent the rooms and we are all happy :o) Chill out. No dogs or smoking in the bedrooms.
